This was as competive as an Inter club game could be with 25 players used who were intent on showing the veiwing management teams exactly what they were capable of. The game started at a furious pace with the Yellow side enjoying the better of the early exchanges forcing the White side to defend In numbers with a brand of simple fluent football that appears to be encouraged from the touchline . Chances were few and far between as both defences coped well , reading the play and anticipating the movement of their squad teammates and not allowing themselves to be caught square with all four fullbacks looking to keep a good shape and cover the centre halfs at every opportunity . Even today the goalkeepers were able to distribute the ball from there hands rather than kick a 50/50 ball as the movement and coinfidence of all the defenders with the ball at their feet was evident to all . A good move right on half time down the right should have opened the scoring , Simba Mlambo created just enough space on the right to present Mark Corbett with a gilt edged chance , Unfortunately he connected ' too well ' and shot over with the goal at his mercy.

With so much energy spent during the 1st 45 minutes the second half was played at a more sedate pace with both sides continuing to use the ball well and break quickly on the opposition . It was proving to be a very evenly matched game with neither side prepared to end up on the losing side whilst still pressing to get the elusive winner for bragging rights In the clubhouse . With 20 minutes to go an Outstanding save by Smithy In the Yellow goal had everyone applauding , debutant Dean Preston ( younger brother of Paul ) bent a superb shot destined for the top right hand corner of the net , somehow the keeper flung himself full stretch to claw the ball away for a corner . It was a game doninated by the defences but full of controlled disciplined football throughout that will surely stand both senior sides In good stead for the season ahead , the numerous young new faces to the squad were particularly Impressive.
