If the splendid crowd of 111 (boosted to nearer 150 with half time arrivals) were looking forward to the youth team of the leaders of the Blue Square Premier (Conference) side putting on a stylish, disciplined and free flowing performance in this FA Youth Cup tie they weren't disappointed! Six goals, and most of them the result of incisive open play and powerful shooting, settled the tie.

Not that Alton's youngsters were overwhelmed as they more than held their own in an open first half that saw Nick Sharp with a very early chance, Mike Turner head wide from a corner and Jamie Kinch shoot narrowly passed.

The visitors, however, were clinical with their two first half chances and there was clearly work to be done in the second half. Alas, within minutes, Oxford showed their class with 3 superb goals and it was a question of the home side hanging on in there - which they did with endeavour and enthusiasm. A sixth goal midway through the second half completed the scoring.
