Four goals in a twenty minute spell during the second half could not seperate these two sides as they fought out a competitive game played with both sides keen to get the ball down on the turf and pass the ball around.

The first half was goaless which suited the away side as Alton looked the more dangerous and could well have opened the account as the final ball let them down after they had created some really good openings.

If the first half did not keep the spectators enthralled then the second half did. Alton struck first Simba Mlambo arriving at the back post to slot home after space had been created down the left for a good cross. Lymington responded well and struck twice in five minutes the first after an excellent passage of play that resulted in a shot from 25 yards that struck the bar, the rebound headed home by an alert striker.

They took the lead when Alton gave the ball away in a defensive area and a good cross from the left was headed home by the tall striker as the home defenders were caught out. If anyone doubted the character of the home side they responded really well Mlambo slotting home the loose ball after the keeper had parried a goalbound shot.

Alton looked the most likely to get a winner as they pushed forward and were denied when Dan Gray looked as though he was throgh on goal only for the experienced centre back to stop play with a handball. Alton were awarded the free kick and the defender was fortunate to stay on the park as he had been booked earlier in the first half. The last chance also fell to Gray as he unleashed a shot from distance that the keeper did well to push over the ball.
