A superb headed goal from Richard McCann inside the opening ten minutes lifted Alton who had other opportunities to increase their lead before Fleet equalised on the stroke of half time with a well taken free kick from 25 yards. Whether the free kick should have been awarded in the first place was as much a talking point as the excellence of its execution.

Fleet dominated the second half but the Brewers held out until near the end with Craig Atkinson being unlucky to see his penalty save followed up to score and a late third goal putting on a bit of gloss.
