A large crowd bolstered by a good following of away fans were treated to an entertaining game at the Bass sports ground on Tuesday evening.

Salisbury recently of the Conference premier fielded two teams one in each half and provided a very tough test for the home side.

A very experienced side eleven dominated possesion throughout the first but ultimately relied on two defensive mistakes to lead two nil at half time.

A goal mid way through the half and another right on half time probably reflected the difference between the two sides although the best chance created during the half fell to the home side but having raced clear with the keeper to beat the striker delayed his shot and allowed a defender the time to nick the ball away.

The second half saw a much younger Salisbury side take the field and after a initial quiet opening Alton created chances at regular intervals. Some very wasteful finishing and very good goalkeeping combined to prevent the home sides pacy attack from quickly clawing back the defecit. Six glorious chances went begging to the disbelief of the home supporters, but it was also encouraging that those chances were being created against good opposition.

Salisbury also created two chances that should have resulted in goals but on both occasions the home keeper did well to block point blank efforts.
