Alton Town hosted Conferance South Basingstoke Town at the bass sports ground on Tuesday night in front a healthy crowd. The home side continued their progress toward the start of the competitive season under the new management team and held their illustrious neighbours to a creditable draw.

Basingstoke were the stronger in the first half and played some good quality football without creating too many good scoring opportunities, this also allowed the home side to express themselves and they too showed a healthy appetite too get the ball down and play. Both sides showed a good work ethic and the home side battled well to keep themselves in the game.

The second half was a more open affair as the game opened up and numerous changes were made during this period. Basingstoke created the better chances and in a few weeks time will be looking to capatalize on these when the players sharpen up. The closest the game came to a goal was when Paul Preston hit a shot from a short free kick that cannoned back of the bar with the Basingstoke keeper beaten all ends up.

A good performance from the entire Alton squad especially in their defending with a special mention for keepers Craig Atkinson and Mo Nyamunga.
