Just as Alton has scored 'at the right time' in the FA Cup on Saturday so it was their turn to suffer in similar fashion against newly promoted Hamble ASSC who found the ball bobbing about invitingly to hammer home a third goal 2 minutes into added time of the first half. Alton had started slowly and were punished accordingly although again the second goal seemed to be the result of there ball being 'loose' in the penalty area.

There appeared a chance of a memorable fight back when Steve Brown scored with a header early enough in the second half to have the visitors shouting anxiously at each other. Brown then had an even better header 'saved' in the top corner when those close by were of the opinion that Steve and Frank Lampard now had much in common.

With twenty minutes still remaining Simba Mlambo was brought down in the penalty area (not for the first time but this time a penalty kick was awarded.) Tom Brown appeared to appoint himself as the taker and when his lazy effort was fairly easily stopped by the keeper the moment and momentum was lost - just like the game for the Brewers.

Hamble then rubbed salt into the open wounds by scoring twice in the final 3 minutes with pretty identical goals, coming in strongly from the left and shooting accurately low into the net.
