Alton continued their unbeaten run with what turned out to be a comfortable victory over Petersfield.
This did not look to be the case at half time with the home side only one goal in front and not playing there normal flowing football, and also with 5 regulars not available.
The home side did not really get going in the first half, but took the lead early on. Youth team forward Luke Perkins chased down a through ball which was cleared by the visiting keeper, but the ball fell to Josh Brewster who shot from just inside the visitors half and found the top corner with a stunning finish. This was as good as it got though as Alton could not get there passing game going, and had to rely on the off side flag to keep them ahead. As the half went on the home side found a bit of fluidity and moved the ball better, Rob Haigh latched onto a through ball but could not finish. At the other end Alton’s back four of Brown, Brewester, Grenham and Ventham along with Moody in between the sticks coped with the threat from Petersfield. Alton got to half time 1-0 up having not played well, but with numerous changes perhaps this was not such a bad half after all.
The second half started with Alton moving the ball quickly and looking like a different side, with Tom Brown and Alton skipper Scott Johnston starting to run the game. The second goal came from the Alton strikers combining well. The ball got fed into Pete Booker who shielded the ball well and laid it back to Luke Perkins who placed his shot passed the keeper to mark his debut with a goal. The home side continued to dominate and started to create chances, the next goal and critical goal came from the boot of Tom Brown who unleashed an unstoppable drive from 20 yards that flew into the top corner. Alton then made there first change with Evans making a welcome return, and with a bit of shuffling around of personal making his mark up front. The next chance fell to the Alton striker when he missed from close range after good delivery from Jack Jones on the right. Again Alton threatened this time from a corner with the home side missing from close range, to there credit Petersfield kept going and got there goal after Alton gave the ball away on the edge of there area. This spurred Alton on and they responded soon after when Evans Tigere finished well after being sent through. Then Alton continued with there YOUTH policy with Dave H (21 again and sporting a go faster haircut) replacing the impressive Luke Perkins, and he was involved with setting up the fifth and final goal for Evans. The Alton sub picked up the ball from the evergreen Hawtin and managed to unleash a shot come cross into the far corner again giving the keeper no chance.
Moody, brown, Brewster, Ventham (Tigere 60 mins), Grenham, Johnston, Brown, Jones, Haigh, Perkins (Hawtin 80mins), Booker.
