Goals from Mark Clothier, with a low drive from 22 yards straight from the second half kick off, and a trademark Steve Brown power header from a corner (see photos) got the Brewers back to winning ways and moved them up to 8th in a very tight middle section of the premier league.
It was, at times, a controlled approach from Alton with an improvement in the accuracy of passing and ball retention but it still needed a couple of excellent blocks from central defenders Lee McGavin and James Hammond together with two superb saves from point blank range by 'keeper Craig Atkinson to earn the home side the points.
Alton's home FA Vase fixture against Wantage Town this coming Saturday will be featured live on Radio Solent (96.1 FM) and on line with One World Radio. Better still, if you're within striking distance get along and watch the action unfold.
Regarding their Vase run this season Alton's chairman, Jim McKell, said he was particularly pleased for the club as a whole - as everyone gets a lift with a good run in the Vase or FA Cup. He went on to say 'We know we are not a giant in the non-league world, so doing well and being seen to achieve what some might consider to be above our station is just reward not only for the playing and management staff but for the dedicated group of unpaid volunteers (and there are quite a few involved) who make a contribution away from the ninety minutes to ensure that the club itself survives and is thus given a chance to thrive'.
