Another victory and another clean sheet, against a spirited Whitchurch side who looked better than the league table reflects.
With a few personnel changes and promotions continuing to the 1st team, Alton kept a good shape but had to be patient before securing this win. On an immaculate playing surface (AS NORMAL) the home side dominated procession, but on occasions did overplay. The first of a host of chances fell to Ryan Ayling who shot just wide, the half continued with Alton retaining the ball and Whitchurch threatening on the break. Alton eventually to the lead after half an hour when Ryan Ayling went through a couple of tackles in the area and then slotted the ball past the keeper with ease.
HT Alton 1 - 0 Whitchurch
With the same shape and amount of play, Alton started with a bit more purpose and became more lively in the final third of the pitch with this chances came more regularly. Luke Perkins was first to create, when he could not lob the advancing keeper early in the half. Then came the first of Mac’s many shot’s in the second period (all with the same outcome, not troubling the keeper). Alton had started to pile on the pressure, Simba and Jack constant threat down the wings and with the new system the home side managed to get more bodies into the box. There was some inspiration though needed from the dug out when, Aaron Creswell was sent on to replace the lively Perkins ( also saving him for important Youth team fixture). Aarons first involvement was not an indication of what was to follow as he spooned a header wide. But a few minutes later Simba received a high ball Brazilian like and set of down the line, he squared the ball back to the edge of the area and Aaron released an un stoppable drive high into the top corner. This seemed to finish of the visitors and Creswell again finished in style when latching onto a good through ball from Scott Johnston as he slammed the ball past the advancing keeper. Then come the comedy moment as CARRY ON FOOTBALL came to the Anstey Park ground. Simba after a great run had a shot blocked and rebound to Mac Phillips who slipped and shot at the same time with ball returning to Simba, who had another shot which was blocked, all this about eight yards from goal (probably had to see this to fully appreciate).
This turned out to be a comfortable win in the end and also Alton gave a debut to Kalid, who slotted in at the back and done well.
With the first team wining, players moving up from reserves and down for games from first team, things are looking good at the moment and long may this continue.
